An Honest Islay Travel Review

As an avid traveler, I was excited to finally make the trip to the beautiful island of Islay, located off the coast of Scotland. From the moment I arrived, I knew this would be a trip to remember.

Upon arriving at Glasgow Airport, I made the short journey to Kennacraig to catch the ferry to Islay. The ferry ride was a highlight in itself, with stunning views of the Scottish coastline and the opportunity to spot some wildlife, such as seals and dolphins.

Upon arriving on the island, I was struck by the beauty of the landscape. Rolling hills, picturesque beaches, and fields of colorful flowers stretched out before me. I quickly made my way to my Airbnb, which was a cozy cottage located in the small village of Port Ellen.

Over the next few days, I explored the island to my heart’s content. I took a tour of the famous whisky distilleries, such as Laphroaig and Ardbeg, and learned about the process of making this beloved Scottish spirit. I also spent a day hiking through the beautiful countryside, taking in the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.

One of the things that stood out to me most about Islay was the friendliness of the locals. Everywhere I went, people were more than happy to chat and offer recommendations for things to do and see on the island. The sense of community on Islay was truly special and made my trip all the more memorable.

In terms of food, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of options available on the island. From fresh seafood caught locally to hearty pub meals, there was something for every taste. I also had the opportunity to try some of the island’s famous cheeses and jams, which were delicious.

Overall, my trip to Islay was an absolute dream. The beauty of the island, the friendly locals, and the delicious food all combined to make it a truly memorable experience. If you’re considering a trip to Islay, I can honestly say that you won’t be disappointed. It truly is a gem of Scotland that should not be missed.
